Take care of ALL of our Skin: Body Skincare Regimen

It’s crazy to think that your whole body is covered with skin. But, we choose to only focus on the skin on our face and neglect our bodies. It is important to develop a routine to take care of all the skin on our body to stay clean and fresh!

Dry Skin = Dull Skin

For starters, all skin isn’t created equal. The skin on your body actually has fewer pores than the skin on your face. Pores are the small opening on your skin that releases oils and sweat. Since our body has fewer pores it is less likely to hold bacteria and have infections. However, the body has a lot more hair that can trap bacteria, produce body odor, trap dead skin and produce acne. Which is why it is important to take care of the skin on our body as much as we take care of the skin on our hands!

How do we get the skin on our bodies to glow as much as our faces? The first and most important step is easy and something we already do. We clean it! This seems like a no brainer but regularly washing our skin helps get rid of trapped sweat, dirt, and wash away dead skin. Regularly showering can make a huge difference in the appearance of our skin. But, we shouldn’t just use soap and water. WE MUST EXFOLIATE. Just like with our faces it is a lot more efficient to get rid of dead skin and dirt when we regularly exfoliate our skin. Could you imagine how your face would feel if you never exfoliated it? So invest in a loofah or a body scrub to cleanse your skin. This will increase cell turnover and leave your skin baby soft.

Not so regular showers

Now, this might sound gross but science tells us we don’t actually have to shower every day. It actually might be better for our skin and environment if we shower every other day depending on activity. As we stated earlier, our bodies have fewer pores than our face so it doesn’t need as much maintenance. Showering helps clean all the gunk out of our skin but, if we weren’t active that day and sat around watching YouTube videos chances are we probably don’t need to shower. Think about it: a shower strips the skin of everything on top of it meaning if you already have really dry skin drying it out again isn’t going to be beneficial for your body or water conservation. Trust me your body and water bill will thank you.

One thing you can do every day before your shower is dry brushing. What is dry brushing? It is exactly what it sounds like; Brushing your skin while it is dry. You can pick up a body brush at Walmart, Target and even Dollar Tree! Apart from being very cost-effective dry brushing is really simple. How do you do it? Brush your entire body for just 3 minutes before you hop into the shower. Basically foolproof! One big benefit of dry brushing is we can boost lymphatic drainage. Lymph-what? Okay, so Lymphatic drainage is how we remove all the toxins from our bodies. By dry brushing, we can increase the speed of this process, boost our circulation and in turn give ourselves glowing vibrant skin. Another benefit of dry brushing is it is also a form of exfoliation! Which for our body regular exfoliation is really good. By dry brushing, we can loosen up and get rid of all the excess dry skin on our body before we shower.

Moisturized skin = Happy skin

Moisturize, Moisturize Moisturize! This is a shout out to all my ashy men and women! When our skin becomes dry it becomes dull and it oxidizes. Which leads to why we get that no good terrible white cast on our skin often referred to as ash. No one likes getting ashy skin it can be embarrassing and uncomfortable. Luckily there’s an easy solution. You just have to keep your skin moisturized!  When we shower we clean out our skin and give it a boost of hydration. But eventually, that water on the top of our skin evaporates and we get dry dehydrated skin. That’s when we use body care products. Body care products help lock in that moisture (and give our skin extra moisture) and give our skin extra nutrients. One thing that not enough people take advantage of is body serums. What is a body serum? It’s a face serum but for our face. Easy right? So using a body serum has the same benefits of using a face serum to helps introduce concentrated nutrients into our skin.  One great product is our own Skinny Legend, which is composed of Hyaluronic acid and Aloe Vera. Hyaluronic acid holds 10 times its weight in water and can really help lock in moisture on our bodies, face, and hair. It is an essential ingredient for dry and dehydrated skin. While Aloe Vera is packed with moisturizing ingredients to help lock in moisture into our skin longer and promote cell repair.

But remember using a Body serum does not replace body lotion. Much like how facial serums don’t replace a facial moisturizer. Using a thick body moisturizer can help keep all those ingredients in your skin longer by creating a protective barrier over your skin. It is very important to use a moisturizer every single day to promote soft silky skin!

Now you know by incorporating exfoliation, dry brushing, body serums, and thick moisturizers into your skincare routine you can help keep your skin soft glowy and most importantly healthy. The skin on our body is just as important as the skin on our face. Arguably more important because there is a lot more of it. When our skin is healthy, happy and thriving it can be a major confidence boost too! So treat yourself by treating your skin and you won’t regret it!

We all know that a home-cooked meal made with whole ingredients is far healthier than a package of processed food from the store. The same is true for skin care.  Most of us are becoming increasingly thoughtful about what we put in on our skin, and a DIY approach can give you some of the freshest, highest quality, therapeutic care that plants can offer, chemical free, and at a fraction of the cost.
